Worker Center Resumes In-Person Training With Somerville Worker Center

August 27, 2021
With MassCOSH staff and many of its Worker Center members vaccinated, the Worker Center has recently resumed limited, in-person trainings for low-income and immigrant workers. On August 7, the Worker Center held its first in a series of leadership trainings for newer members to build their capacity to fight for better working conditions.
Joining the Somerville Worker Center, the training hosted 13 workers including landscapers, domestic workers, restaurant workers, and childcare providers. Over the next few weeks, these workers will learn the history of immigrants in the American labor movement, master public speaking skills, and master how to build a campaign for better working conditions from the ground up.
A highlight of the training will include special guest speaker Danelia Buitrago, a former Univision Spanish reporter. Buitrago will help educate the workers on how to craft their workplace campaigns in such a way that attracts media attention. The training will conclude with a talk from Jorge Rivera from the Painters and Allied Trades DC 35 union who will speak on the valuable role unions play in defending worker rights and improving working conditions.
The Worker Center is also taking in-person meetings with workers in MassCOSH’s East Boston office on Thursdays by appointment only. To schedule a meeting, email
