No Job Too Big for Teens Lead @ Work

July 16, 2019

On June 26, MassCOSH’s Teens Lead @ Work peer leaders dived headfirst into their biggest training of the year. As part of the Malden Work Readiness Program, 11 of our summer peer leaders trained 245 young workers just entering the labor force to earn money over their summer break.

The peer leaders expertly provided a safety and health training, reviewing hazards young workers may encounter, how to identify and mitigate such hazards, and how to speak up to their supervisors if they feel they are working in an unsafe environment. The peer leaders also provided a rights on the job training specially designed for young workers, breaking into groups to train the Malden teens on the different type of jobs they can work by age, the hours they are legally allowed to work, as well as the machinery they are allowed to operate.

This was the first of many trainings TL@W will conduct for young workers this summer.  Reach out to Jenny Fernandez, Youth Programs Coordinator at jenny.fernandez@masscosh.org if your organization has training needs.
