Dear Representative,
I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor Act to Update and Streamline the Employment Agency Law (formerly S2364 and H 4623). Being filed in January by Rep. Dorcena Forry and Senator Hart, the bill addresses enormous gaps in oversight of temporary agencies that result in widespread abuses of workers and an un-level playing field for law-abiding employment agencies.
Each year, thousands of Massachusetts workers are sent to jobs by certain temp agencies without knowing where they are going, the type of work they will do. While some employment agencies are required to be licensed, temporary agencies have virtually no oversight. Too often, companies take advantage of this lack of regulation, failing to pay workers and/or to purchase workers compensation.
This bill would ensure that all employment and staffing agencies are subject to the same, simplified and streamlined registration process, creating a level playing field for all agencies.
I strongly support this bill and hope you will be a co-sponsor and champion of this legislation during this next legislative session.
Sincerely,
Your Name
