The REAL Campaign: Reform Employment Agency Law

The people of Massachusetts urgently need decent jobs. A growing crop of temporary agencies are hindering our hopes for economic prosperity.

They’re creating an underground economy that’s hurting hard-working employers, exploiting workers and stealing desperately needed tax revenue from the state’s coffers. The Commonwealth's Employment Agency Law (G.L. c. 140, §§ 46A-R) is completely outdated. It fosters the creation of fly-by-night temp agencies by neglecting to provide any oversight, while requiring a burdensome process for professional employment agencies that create good jobs.

The Solution:
Reform the Employment Agency Law (REAL) (HB 1393).
The REAL Law will streamline provisions governing the industry, place all employment and staffing agencies on a level playing field, simplify requirements imposed by the Division of Occupational Safety (DOS), and protect workers in temporary jobs.
